“Where to show that horse”:
OF Large Production New World Ware
Horses produced in factories located in countries of the New World (Western hemisphere). Examples include Hagen-Renaker, Loza Electrica, Made With love, Pour Horse, etc. Large production means edition sizes in excess of 49 models of the same color and finish (matte, satin, or gloss).
OF Large Production Old World Ware
Horses produced in factories located in the Old World, such as Europe, Asia, or Africa. Examples include Cheval, Alchemy, Beswick, Norcrest, Josefs, Breyer porcelains, Made-In-Japans, etc.
Small Production and Test
Horses produced with a factory duplication intent that only number 2-49 pieces in each color and finish. Tests are those one-of-a-kind glazes that were created with intent to discover a new color for production. Due to insufficient entries for a breed division at the last CC, these now compete for NAN cards in Collectability.
Glaze/Claybody Custom
Horses that have been altered from factory regular issue by glazing the bisque, overglazing, claybody customization (resculpting), or otherwise created as kiln-fired one-of-a-kind, purely for the art of it. Original ceramic sculptures also show in this division.
Custom Workmanship
Added bonus division for custom glaze horses, so you can get more showing mileage! It pays to not pack up too early.
Collectability for All LP OF
This covers non-realistic horses, horse heads and busts, Small Production, Test, and Large Production horses. Small Production means, horses produced with a factory duplication intent that only number 2-49 pieces in each color and finish. Tests are those one-of-a-kind glazes that were created to try out a color with intent to reproduce in quantity. One-of-kind glazes made without the intent for reproduction are shown in Glaze/Claybody Custom. Art glazes produced in a production line (examples: “Art of Fire” Lakeshore, PH Hosscar) show in Collectability.
Judges are looking for:
- All OF Large Production Divisions are judged on condition (chips, breaks, restoration should be invisible), glaze quality (least amount of flaws), mold detail, and suitability of breed assignment. There is a bias for realism in these divisions.
- Glaze/Claybody Custom is judged on anatomy and biomechanics, as well as condition of ware and breed.
- Custom Workmanship is judged on seam cleaning, mold detail, flawless glaze application, and color accuracy.
- Collectability for All LP OF is judged on scarcity, desirability, and age, with no attention to realism.
In all divisions of this show, documentation with neat index cards, small photos, and bibliography is highly encouraged. This show is an opportunity to educate (and impress) your fellow collectors, so please exercise it.
Why aren't minis split out?
In ceramics, mini models can have just as much detail as their larger cousins. It is not uncommon for a good mini to walk all over its larger competition. Minis are mighty in ceramic!
